With growing demand for high first destination knowledge rates, career professionals are seeking time-saving, cost-effective data collection strategies. Many suggest using publicly-available social media sites as sources of outcomes information. Yet, how trustworthy are these data? The Career Center at Illinois compared social media data to survey responses for our 2014-2015 class–with over 3,000 overlapping cases. Could social media stand up to survey self-report?
